Record crowds
visited Troy Idaho on July 19 for Troy Old Timers' Day. The car show,
parade, music, food, fun, and games were well attended, and participation
was outstanding!
Grand marshals
Dorothy Anderson, Helen Anderson, and Lois Granlund took center stage
with their lifelong dedication to education, boasting a combined 83 years
of Troy teaching experience.
The "Century of Learning" exhibit prepared by the Troy Historical
Society drew huge crowds to the Troy Lions Community Center. If you missed
this outstanding display, which included amazing miniature models of past
Troy area schools, put on the dunce cap and sit in the corner!
The new city park
playground was a huge hit, with a steady stream of kids checking out the
new attraction all day long.

Lions Club Awards Major Grant to Playground Project
The Troy Lions Club has awarded a major grant for
replacement of playground equipment in Troy City Park. The club's $10,000
commitment is the largest private contribution to the project. The club
is partnering with city officials to replace aging and potentially unsafe
playground equipment, most of which was installed in the 1970's and is
due for modernization.
"This project will have a long-term benefit for Troy," said
club president Bart Gabelmann at the formal presentation. Gabelmann was
joined by Troy mayor Ken Whitney, city clerk Rhonda Case, city parks and
recreation director Paul Dunworth, city council member Dave McGraw, and
a contingent of Troy High School juniors.
The juniors have also been fundraising for the project. Jessica Case,
Hailey Malm, Jeffrey Nelson, and Jamie Bailey solicited donations at a
recent community dinner.
The City of Troy is coordinating the project. The city is also providing
a combination of public funding and resources, including demolition of
the old equipment and assistance during installation of the new.
The
playground was constructed July 11 and 12, and is ready for play. This
will be a featured attraction for Troy Old Timers' Day on July 19.
Phase two of the project is scheduled for 2009. Additional amenities such
as tables and barbecue stations are being planned. "Our city park
is already awesome," said council member and Troy Lion Dave McGraw.
"This will take it to the next level, and could only happen with
wide community support."
The Troy Lions Club has a history of building park infrastructure. The
gazebo, covered stage, horseshoe pits, and carousel are examples of the
club's ongoing commitment. "Our club has been active in Troy for
41 years," Gabelmann noted. "Let's build for the future."

The Troy Lions Club supports community activities and organizations.
We help improve the quality of life for people in Troy, Latah County,
surrounding communities, the United States, and the world . It's through
the action of service clubs that local and regional needs are met quickly
and efficiently. This reduces burdens on public resources, and generates
civic pride in the process. Every dollar from a service club arguably
displaces a tax dollar.
