Services LLC. Tom Saylor, Troy Lions Club president during the system's
activation, spoke about the club's motivation to provide the service:
"The Hot Zone was an ideal choice for 2005's president's project.
The Troy Lions support the Troy community, and the club was ready with
financial support for the project. Troy now has an economic development
tool, a community amenity, and a public servic Wireless Internet, also known as Wi-Fi, has become increasingly popular, usually in the form of "hot spots". Hot spots typically cover only a single business or building. The Troy system is more accurately called a "hot zone", which covers a significantly larger area. In the Troy Hot Zone, approximately nine square blocks in the downtown corridor are able to receive the free service. "We went from no public hot spots in Troy, to a Hot Zone, in one step," added Saylor. Troy Television Cable, Inc. provides the Internet connectivity through its recently inaugurated cable modem service. to connect to Personal computer or PDA with a wireless network adapter installed and operating. Reasonable line-of-sight from your computer to the rooftop of the Troy Lions Community Center.
